On 15 May, the U.S. Military Assistance Command, Thailand (MACTHAI) is activated, with General Paul Harkins as Commander. Major General Richard Stilwell, Chief of JUSMAGTHAI, becomes MACTHAI Deputy Commander on 31 October.
